Another MONTH in the life of GURPS

This week is named Sébastien. I didn't publish updates on April 17 or 24, or on May 1, so it's closer to a month . . . whence the title of this post. I was busy packing, moving, and unpacking during that period, and so barely had time for work. I am back to work, and as I am on my 22nd day without a day off from either my move or my day job, I'm going to post and sign off. The news:

• I reviewed the first draft of David Pulver's GURPS Armor Design.

• I updated the GURPS Basic Set, Fourth Edition Revised FAQ.

• I udpated the Warehouse 23 Digital Wish List and the Warehouse 23 Wish List for GURPS.

• I posted the GURPS News for April. Unfortunately, some release dates are in flux due to printing-related setbacks on the GURPS Basic Set, Fourth Edition Revised and GURPS Ring of Fire.

And of course I caught up on my correspondence and participated in a video meeting.

• I submitted my most recent writing project. It's for 2027, so no clues yet. I'd say "short," but it'll probably be closer to "medium."

• I posted the GURPS News for March. In fact, I did that last week, but I was deep into moving-related stuff last Friday and didn't report it.

• I edited and submitted Thomas Pugh's GURPS Banestorm: Whispers of Tohrent.

• I got John Shimmin's GURPS Locations: Institute of Metaphysics Library ready to edit. Work in earnest starts next week.

• I helped David Pulver cut some rules knots he ran into on GURPS Armor Design.

• Virtual meetings happened, as always.

This week is named Sirma. The news:

• I finished the GURPS Basic Set, Fourth Edition Revised FAQ and submitted it to the webmaster. Once it goes live, I will share the URL far and wide.

• I worked with Nikki to get GURPS Power-Ups 11: Roll Your Own Skills and GURPS Template Toolkit 5 closer to ready for 2026. I am not going to let any surprises sideline next year's release schedule.

• I devoted more time to GURPS-related meetings and Daily Illuminators.

• I did a bunch of "end of year" work because SJ Games will be closed December 24 through January 4, and my last workday of 2025 is next week.

That last point means that you won't see updates here on December 26 and January 2. Expect one or the other as I briefly come out of hibernation to round up the month of December and for that matter the rest of 2025.

• I submitted the final info needed to get GURPS Action 10 through production.

• I worked on a comprehensive GURPS Basic Set, Fourth Edition Revised FAQ. Where your questions require answers that I simply do not have, I am pestering those who do have them. Stay tuned!

• I devoted time to GURPS-facing Daily Illuminator content about how 2025 went and how I would like 2026 to go. You'll see that when it comes up in the news queue.

• Why yes, there were meetings.

It would've been a more productive week had frozen pipes in my home – which is also my office – not distracted me from it.

• The GURPS Basic Set, Fourth Edition Revised took further steps toward the printer, though it isn't there yet.

• I am presently checking the text of – and selecting art and quotes for – the preliminary PDF of GURPS Action 10.

• I accepted another final draft that I cannot name yet . . . into the editorial queue with that!

• I reviewed queries from a well-known GURPS freelancer.

• We shuffled and (hopefully!) finalized the 2026 release schedule. The GURPS News in late December will reflect this.

• There were long meetings.

• We did our "premortem" of the GURPS Basic Set, Fourth Edition Revised. Eight of us met to hash out final fixes before the files go to the printer.

• We made progress on art and cartography for GURPS Ring of Fire.

• I spent a lot of time helping two Sekrit Projekts make progress.

• I posted the GURPS News for November.

• We released GURPS Gun Stats. Pow! You can read about that here.

• We finished the prepress review of the GURPS Basic Set, Fourth Edition Revised. We'll have a premortem meeting next week and then it will go to the printer!

• We met to plan the next steps for GURPS Ring of Fire, including such matters as a preliminary layout, art, and cartography. It is moving much faster than past licensed products ever did.

• I devoted significant effort to one of the remaining Sekrit Projekts.

This week is named Riley. The news:

• The GURPS Basic Set, Fourth Edition Revised got through prepress review by a small army of people. Once Nikki has applied their corrections, it will go to the printer.

• We renamed David Pulver's GURPS Guns to GURPS Gun Stats to have a title we could trademark and to be clearer on it not being a catalog or a de novo design system. The preliminary PDF is currently with me for final review.

• Both Bill Stoddard's GURPS Ring of Fire and Alden Loveshade's GURPS Hot Spots: Victorian London got a few final corrections from their respective authors. Final doesn't always mean final.

• Two Sekrit Projekts also saw more progress.

• Top priority continued to be the final tasks needed to get the GURPS Basic Set, Fourth Edition Revised to the printer.

• We put some final touches on David Pulver's GURPS Guns, which still looks good for November.

• Bill Stoddard submitted the final, edited draft of GURPS Ring of Fire.

• Alden Loveshade submitted the final draft of GURPS Hot Spots: Victorian London.

• I reviewed that first draft that came in a couple of weeks ago, and sent the author my comments.

• I submitted my quarterly updates to the Warehouse 23 Digital Wish List and the Warehouse 23 Wish List for GURPS.

• We got Bill Stoddard's GURPS Infinite Worlds: Gotterdammerung ready for release next week.

• I worked with writers to advance GURPS Hot Spots: Victorian London and GURPS Ring of Fire, among other things, like David Pulver's as-yet-unnamed project.

• A first draft arrived in house, which I will review . . . yeesh, after all that!

• I threw myself into the Sekrit Project that's pressing because we want the rules aspects of it done this month.

• I worked hard with Bill Stoddard to solve the remaining rules puzzles in the final draft of GURPS Ring of Fire.

• Alden Loveshade's GURPS Hot Spots: Victorian London left playtesting and is now with Alden to create the final draft.

• I worked with David Pulver to get rules sorted out in the first draft of his latest project.

• We have settled the GURPS schedule for 2026, and have things slated for 9 out of 12 months, with 1d reserve items to cover gaps or early 2027.
