The Company

On January 21, we had Bonnie ("Xiang Wen," a.k.a. "Wu Xie Zhi" and "Dot"), Marc ("Anabel Windsor," a.k.a. "Abigail Wilson" and "Vicky"), and Torsten ("Qoqa Ramazanova," a.k.a. "Zoya Petrovna Sidorova").

Time: Tuesday, January 14, 2014 (night).
Place: Casablanca, Morocco.
Last Event: Fleeing a bad situation.

After defeating four would-be abductors (or were they assassins?), the Agents snatch up weapons and prepare to fight. Wen and Klas take point with rifles, while Lev and Paul follow close on their heels with stunners. Not wanting to be left behind, Qoqa and Jili help Anabel down the corridor a short distance behind their armed allies. V brings up the rear with her ludicrously diminutive pistol. When everyone is ready, the group advances down the corridor from which the gunmen emerged.

As the team approaches the lit doorway to their right, Klas signals a stop and indicates that he hears as many as half a dozen people bustling around in the room ahead. In response to Klas' warning, the Agents get ready to strike . . . only to have two rifle-toting figures leap into view with the same idea in mind. The first exchange brings the group mixed fortunes. On one hand, Klas drops one of the gunmen with a single, clean shot between the eyes. On the other, Lev scores an own-goal by zapping Wen from behind by blind bad luck, while Klas takes a bullet in the side (though fortunately not through the lung or anything else vital). A round from the same burst plugs V in the chest, but she seems unfazed – she's doubtless wearing high-quality body armor.

From this point on, the engagement degenerates into total chaos. A couple more men emerge from the room, spraying gunfire everywhere. Lev lunges for Wen's dropped rifle and catches bullets instead: one in each arm, plus a third in his left hand. This encourages him to play dead, which seems to work. Paul rolls out of the line of fire along the ground; in the process, he drives his heels into the kneecaps of a charging shooter, sending the man to the floor in the doorway and slowing the enemy rush. This gives Klas space to shoot from the ground – and despite his wound, he manages to blast not one but two opponents in the face.

While all this is going on up front, Anabel, Jili, Qoqa, and V respond as best they can. Qoqa advances with her knife at the ready, hoping to lend a hand. Jili, who's totally unarmed, helps Anabel escape to safety around the corner. As soon as those three are out of the way, V shoots uselessly with her dinky pistol, missing with all two shots. For her trouble, V is struck in the chest again. Once more, this appears to have no serious effect.

By the time Qoqa arrives on the scene, two more gunmen are pressing the attack. One turns on Paul, who gets the jump on his would-be attacker and kneecaps him as well. The other shooter sees Klas reaching for Wen's rifle and Qoqa approaching with her knife, and sprays gunfire all over the place. Fortunately for the Agents, the man isn't the best shot. Qoqa suffers a near-miss, but being the iron-willed psycho she is, this doesn't slow her down; before her assailant knows what's happening, she closes the gap and viciously unzips his arm from elbow to armpit.

At this point, the three men whom Klas shot in the head are all quite dead. Qoqa's rival is desperately trying to fend her off with hopelessly inaccurate one-handed rifle fire even as she presses forward, slashing and stabbing. The two gunmen Paul crippled have crawled out of sight into the room around the corner, but Paul doesn't expect them to hesitate for long, so he lies in wait by the doorway. Lev opts to continue to feign death rather than attempt to operate Wen's rifle despite his injuries, leaving the weapon to Klas, who fights off the pain of his own wounds to grab the gun off the floor. Back down the corridor, Anabel, Jili, and V retreat to the relative safety of the meeting room.

When Qoqa realizes that the fight is over but for her bleeding adversary and the two injured gunmen in the side room, she elects to dispatch her rival and fall back. She hacks her opponent's other arm half off, causing him to collapse in a bloody heap. Then she sneaks a sidelong glance through the doorway, where she sees both of Paul's victims crawling toward the far wall to brace themselves for the group's attack. Qoqa retreats and rejoins her allies.

With four of six enemies well-and-truly taken out, and two more badly hurt and on the defensive, the Agents have time to think. Qoqa manages to revive Wen, who proves to be none the worse for wear for having been stunned. When Klas sees this, he hands Wen the rifle he retrieved and slumps against the wall beside Lev. Qoqa turns her attention to those two, doing her hasty best to bind their wounds well enough to stop their bleeding. The surviving goons remain out of sight – probably because struggling out into the hall on broken legs doesn't seem like a winning proposition!

Eventually, it's time to act. Wen approaches the doorway, gun in hand. Paul and Qoqa stack up behind her, ready to exploit any opening she creates. Klas struggles to his feet and joins them. Anabel, Jili, Lev, and V stay out of the way.

When everybody is in position, Wen ducks into the doorway and shoots. She nails one of the injured men in the head, killing him instantly. The other returns fire, tagging Wen in her exposed left shoulder and leg. As soon as Wen is hit, Paul and Qoqa charge in, with Klas lumbering along behind. The gunman points his weapon at Paul, but Paul is much too fast – before the man can shoot, Paul is on top of him, then Qoqa, and finally Klas. The beating is savage, short, and lethal.

As the sound of the last gunshot dies out, the Agents find themselves the victors. Klas is hobbling along clutching his abdomen, Lev has two useless arms, and Wen can't walk without assistance. None of the three are in mortal danger, thanks mostly to Qoqa, but they all need medical attention. Anabel has nothing worse than a tiny hole from a stunner dart, Paul is mostly fine other than a bump from where he tackled the last shooter, and V's body armor stopped everything with no results worse than bruising. Jili and Qoqa are unscathed (Qoqa is covered in blood, but it isn't her blood).

The Agents decide to leave the scene before reinforcements show up. Paul hastily sweeps the area for anything of interest, turning up V's briefcase, a first-aid box, extra firearms and ammo, and several sets of car keys. Qoqa uses this time – and the found medical gear – to ensure that her associates are as functional as she can make them. Then she does quick cleaning job, for which V compliments her. With that done, everyone grabs an AK-101 and moves out.

As the team leaves the scene, with Klas and Paul on point and the others helping Lev and Wen walk, V does her best to explain what happened. She starts by revealing that, according to her intelligence, Emerson Tactical Solutions is an American branch of a vast conspiracy with tendrils in "at least a dozen countries." V claims that this mysterious organization is working behind the scenes to restore some vision of "Old World Order," apparently without official government support. She explains that she learned that the FSB is among the many security services this group has infiltrated, which is probably why her support element – the 10 dead men, all former FSB – tried to silence her and her nosy friends who made enemies of ETS.

Anabel and Qoqa listen intently. Both are good judges of human character, and though V is unquestionably a trained liar, this certainly sounds like the truth. If nothing else, their attackers certainly made no effort not to shoot V, and the fact that V was only hit in her concealed armor was blind luck. The Agents decide to accept the story for now. V notes that the files in her briefcase will corroborate her claims, although that remains to be seen.

The group reaches the garage without incident. The whole place seems quiet. A quick check of the vehicles finds no booby traps. Jili uses her new high-tech phone to sweep for emissions from tracking or surveillance devices, but there's nothing like that in evidence, either. What the Agents do find are two RPG-7s fitted with thermobaric warheads, concealed in the trunks of two of the vehicles; a dead Moroccan federal security officer, crammed into a third trunk; and the bullet-riddled bodies of V's drivers, stuffed into the back of their van.

After a brief discussion, the Agents decide to take the van (and the RPG-7s, for Wen), but to leave the corpses. Qoqa conceals all three bodies in the trunks of the cars. Then Qoqa cleans up this scene as well, siphoning some gasoline to help with the task. Meanwhile, the others pile into the van, doing their best to let the wounded stretch out. With that done, Paul slips behind the wheel and starts the engine.
