The Company

On May 13, we had Bonnie ("Xiang Wen," a.k.a. "Wu Xie Zhi" and "Dot"), Marc ("Anabel Windsor," a.k.a. "Abigail Wilson" and "Vicky"), and Torsten ("Qoqa Ramazanova," a.k.a. "Zoya Petrovna Sidorova").

Time: Thursday, April 24, 2014 (evening).
Place: Islands southeast of Athens.
Last Event: The raid continues, part 1!

Having breached the mansion-turned-fortress using a liberal dose of high explosives, the Agents waste no time swarming in before the opposition realizes what has happened. Their first order of business is to jam enemy comms in order to make it difficult for anybody to rally the troops in response to the breach. Lev tosses one of his expendable jammers to Qoqa, who skillfully conceals it. Even as Qoqa works, Wen, Paul, and Klas stack up behind Lev, who positions himself to kick open the door.

The move is well-executed, and sees Lev and Wen erupt into the corridor, weapons at the ready, before the men there are able to react. Lev sprays fire down the hall at the three opponents on his side, hitting them all and largely ending his part of the fight before it begins. Wen has less luck, her gigantic rifle proving to be an ineffective close-quarters weapon. Fortunately, the return fire is hasty and ineffective. Paul arrives in time to assist Wen, and by the time Lev turns to see what's going on behind him, the local opposition -- five enemies in all -- has been neutralized.

The Agents press their assault and move deeper into the mansion, the floor plan of which they remember from their last visit. Lev takes point while Paul brings up the rear. At the first corner, Lev steals a quick peek down the large corridor that runs the length of the wing. He sees no nearby foes, but makes out a machine-gun nest set up in the central hall overlooking the front entrance. He ducks back and informs the others.

After a brief discussion, the group decides to take out the squad guarding the central hall from as far away as possible. Klas crawls forward at floor level, exposing himself just enough to take aim. When he fires at the machine-gunner, Wen and Lev pop out and start blazing away as well. Their victims are just figuring out where the fire is coming from when Paul joins the party. Within seconds, there's nobody left to shoot back. Wen puts one last 12.7×99mm round through the sandbags for insurance.

Then the Agents resume their thrust into the mansion. Klas, Lev, and Paul reload; Jili guards the rear; and Wen covers Anabel and Qoqa, who move up to watch the front. Despite all their precautions, though, there's no way to know who's behind a closed door -- just as Anabel and Qoqa pass one, it opens! Everybody involved is surprised, and the two men in the room exchange frantic gunfire with Qoqa and Anabel. When Wen sees this, she blows a couple of large holes in the wall next to the door, guessing where the enemy is. The results are two dead opponents and a bullet through Qoqa's left hand.

In the rear, meanwhile, Jili finds herself facing a lone enemy who doesn't seem particularly intimidated by a slightly built woman with a submachine gun. They trade bursts of automatic fire, most of which destroy the scenery rather than find flesh. At this point Paul has reloaded, and he finishes the skirmish by popping out and thoroughly murdering Jili's opponent. By the time the sound of Qoqa's swearing reaches Paul and Jili, there are no more opponents visible in either direction.

With the immediate threats cleared, Lev orders his people to keep going before the enemy gets wise and responds in force. Then he hustles Qoqa into the side room that she, Anabel, and Wen just cleared, where he watches her back while she bandages her hand. In the corridor, Klas takes Anabel ahead to check out the central hall, while Wen remains prone behind them, covering their advance with her cannon. Jili and Paul continue to guard the rear.

At the intersection of the side corridor and the central hall, Klas waves Anabel back and risks a hasty glance around the corner. He sees nobody in the hall proper, other than the gun crew that he, Lev, Paul, and Wen defeated. However, on the second-floor gallery overlooking the area, he spots four men with rifles and grenade launchers, waiting to take out whoever shot their pals. Fortunately for Klas, they don't notice him.

Klas signals for Wen to move up and join him. After a quick, gesture-laden huddle, they both sling their rifles and ready fragmentation grenades. On Klas' cue, the two cook off their grenades, pop out, throw, and return to cover. Both Agents have good arms; they pull off the move flawlessly. Before the opposition has time to react, a pair of explosions take away the option. The encounter ends in a gory welter of blown-off body parts.

As soon as the area is clear, Wen moves out to check the machine-gun position. She finds nobody lurking there, and notices that her spiteful last bullet pierced a sandbag and put a hole in one of the dead men. Klas follows Wen into the central hall. He stashes one of his expendable jammers in the bloody mess, extending radio silence deeper into the mansion. Then both Agents find shooting positions and wait for their allies to catch up.

By now, Qoqa has bound her hand. She and Lev rejoin the others. Lev sends Anabel forward and beckons for Jili and Paul to move up as well. Before long, the whole team is moving across the central hall, pointing weapons in every direction. However, it seems that the enemy is running out of shooters to throw into the meat grinder -- and doubtless, the jammers are complicating matters. Nobody shows up.

The Agents warily cross the open space and dart into the corridor running down the other wing of the building, their aim being to clear this level before moving up or down a story. With that goal in mind, they start kicking in doors, Klas and Lev taking one side while Anabel and Wen work the other. Jili and Paul continue to stand sentry, watching either end of the passage. Qoqa decides that it would be a better use of her time to splint her hand a little better than to stand around with a handgun.

The door-kicking leads to two not-very-threatening encounters. Anabel surprises a man who's just about to leave a restroom. She shoots him down, Wen stomps him for good measure, and that's that. On the far side of the corridor, Lev bursts in on three men operating a machine gun pointed out a firing slit in an armored window, intent on blasting away at the group's last known location. Deafened by their own weapon and without working comms, they're surprised. Lev makes short work of them, neutralizing the threat.

To be continued . . .
