On August 4, we had Bonnie ("Xiang Wen," a.k.a. "Wu Xie Zhi" and "Dot"), Marc ("Anabel Windsor," a.k.a. "Abigail Wilson" and "Vicky"), and Torsten ("Qoqa Ramazanova," a.k.a. "Zoya Petrovna Sidorova").

Time: Wednesday, July 16, 2014 (evening).
Place: Resort in Taha'a.
Last Event: Planning a return to Mazatlán – and a deception!

The Agents sketch out a basic plan: cold-call the enemy on their own frequencies, pose as members of their organization (whatever that might be), inform them that there were two nukes in Mazatlán back in 2011, and have them bring in a disguised Anabel with the promise of details. Then it's time to discuss specifics. The group decides that it would be best to enter Mexico at Puerto Vallarta and then drive the five or six hours to Mazatlán. They also agree on some resources they'll need: cash, and lots of it; concealable body armor from their contact Dieter; lockpicks and other small burglary tools, disguised as jewelry; medical gear for Qoqa; and a microelectronics lab complete enough to let Jili improvise surveillance gear as needed. Anabel calls Chaturvedi via secure phone and asks him to set this up.

Chaturvedi calls back a few hours later. He can have the Agents on an Air Tahiti Nui flight by way of Bora Bora in a little over a week. As he has had a couple of months to set up new identities for the group and ship forged supporting documents to Taha'a, he has his choice of false names to use, so it shouldn't be a problem. He also promises to ship the requested gear to a warehouse in Mazatlán as soon as possible.

While awaiting travel arrangements, the Agents refine a few details of their scheme. Anabel and Paul prepare the "intelligence report" that Anabel will transmit to start the ball rolling, taking great care to make it look authentic but – far more important – completely "clean" of Company involvement or other tampering. Meanwhile, Jili and Qoqa collaborate on a way to conceal a powerful tracking device inside Anabel. They come up with something that will pass as an IUD, but that Anabel can remove (relatively) easily with the tug of a string and then activate as needed. Anabel isn't thrilled with this, but she's quite aware that the enemy will search and scan her before going along with anything she proposes, and that this unorthodox approach has excellent odds of getting past them.

The flight bookings come through without a hitch almost exactly a week later. The Agents waste no time: Waiting only long enough to let Qoqa "clean" behind them, they pack what little they have with them, prepare the correct identity documents, and head to the airport. Everything goes smoothly, and on Friday, July 25, the team is stepping off a plane in Puerto Vallarta. After a quick huddle, everyone agrees that it would be best to spend the night here, acclimate some, and start work well-rested.

On Saturday morning, the entire group visits the seedier part of town to acquire a couple of "hot" cars with cash, no questions asked. They end up with one unremarkable set of wheels and one that's a little tackier, not unlike a lowrider. Paul, being the best driver, takes the wheel of the troublesome, ugly vehicle, with Jili and Anabel as passengers. Klas drives Lev, Qoqa, and Wen in the more sensible ride. Then the Agents strike out for Mazatlán.

The road trip is uneventful and sees the group pull into town at 15:00. The first order of business is to secure a base of operations in a part of the city where nobody will ask questions. Given the Agents' menacing appearance and willingness to pay cash, this proves relatively straightforward – they might be mistaken for drug smugglers or CIA goons, but that's an acceptable risk. Next up is the matter of procuring basics. The job of buying food, cleaning supplies, curtains, and so on falls to Jili, Qoqa, and Wen. Anabel, Klas, Lev, and Paul get the trickier task of buying black-market firearms.

Anabel's crew cruises around in the lowrider until she and Paul spot a likely place to score: a rough-looking bar with scary men out front – men who are making no effort to conceal handguns. The whole squad approaches the place, with Klas, Lev, and Paul doing their best to look like the frightening killers they are. Anabel gets hassled by the goons outside, who are impressed by both her looks and her guts for approaching such an establishment at all. After an episode of banter and butt-grabbing, Anabel makes her way inside with her associates in tow.

It doesn't take long for Anabel to convince the bartender to point her to the local gun dealers. She has to take the risk of entering the basement alone to win the man's trust, but she has a good feeling for such situations and navigates the dangers expertly. She soon meets a couple of gangsters with crates of firearms and ammo for sale. They're willing to show her their wares, which consist of AKMs. She impresses them by expertly checking out and field-stripping one of the unloaded weapons, and eventually they agree to sell. Anabel makes a deal for 12 rifles and 1,800 rounds of ammo.

When Anabel emerges from the basement, she has a pair of hulking thugs with her, lugging what are obviously ammo cans and crates of rifles. She lets Klas, Lev, and Paul know the deal. Then the Agents pay up – taking great pains to act as though they already have handguns, to keep their trade partners honest – and lug the hardware to their vehicle. They waste no time loading up the car and returning to base, where they find the other three eating dinner.
