It takes two things:
The patience to select recipes, prepare food, and carefully match wine – even if that means reading up on these topics before every meal.
The will to allocate more of your holiday budget to food and drink, at the expense of other items.
To me, it's a no-brainer to select fancy meals with friends over everything else, but not everybody feels that way.
