Om nom nom!

Our little Christmas Eve vigil went well. There were goodies galore: crab salad; nine sorts of raw-milk cheese, all ancient, moldy, or both (good things, for cheese); four varieties of smoked seafood (char, eel, oysters, and salmon); terrine made with pheasant, porto, and wild mushrooms; a goose-liver paté; assorted pickles; and a pile of fancy crackers and biscuits to park it all on. We had that with a pleasant Beaujolais (I can't find the bottle, goshdarnit, so no details) and that eggnog I was making during my last post. We finished up with coffee, cocoa, and sweets. The goal was to overdose on the rich, salty, savory stuff you're supposed to avoid – a Christmas Eve tradition in my familiy. Mission accomplished!

Naturally, I skipped eating for most of today because the previous night was excessive. This is the secret to feasting without gaining weight. I did have my traditional Christmas morning slice o' panettone with my first coffee of the day, though.

In a few short minutes, though, we return to the festivities with our Christmas goose!

(And for the curious, no, I'm not making a "loot list." My thing is food, drink, and socializing – not collecting stuff. There was Christmas money and there will be much restocking of the wine collection, which will be stored away for another year of dinners, soirées, and parties.)
