Another week in the life of GURPS

It's Friday the 13th! Do you know where your GURPS is? I do:

• We just released GURPS Loadouts: Monster Hunters, by S.A. Fisher and Hans-Christian Vortisch. Does your PC face a nest of vampires or cryptids? A zombie apocalypse? This supplement will help you blast, bless, burn, saw, shoot, and stab those varmints real good.

• My own GURPS Thaumatology: Magical Styles is in the pipe for next week. Wizards will never be the same. (They'll be different from one another, anyway, which is the whole point of the supplement.)

• We reviewed the latest PDF of Pyramid #3/4: Magic on the Battlefield. It, too, comes out next week, with support for GURPS Mass CombatGURPS Power-Ups 1: Imbuements, and even GURPS Thaumatology: Magical Styles (yes, the very week it's released!).

• We reviewed the latest PDF of a "new" GURPS adventure – actually an old Space Gamer one adapted to GURPS Fourth Edition. That's due out before month's end.

• An ultra-short freebie by Ken Hite ([info]princeofcairo), in support of GURPS Infinite Worlds, moved a step closer to being ready. It should appear in February as well.

• The stalwart Nikki got GURPS Psionic Powers out of editing and into production. That's a Jason Levine ([info]peekitty) joint, and looking like a March release. I re-watched Scanners in honor of this wonderful news!

• I wrote up a crunchy bit of joint GURPS Action-GURPS Loadouts: Monster Hunters support for Pyramid #3/5: Horror & Spies, which will be another March item.

• The first draft of GURPS Low-Tech, by Bill Stoddard ([info]whswhs) and associates, is on target for its deadline in two weeks' time.

• I'm pleased to report that our new errata coordinator, Warren McKenzie, is making a solid dent in backlogged GURPS errata, judging by the number of rulings I tossed his way this week.

One of my three co-authors just delivered Chapters 2 and 3, and I'm scanning through them to tighten up the prose here and there and send him queries. I anticipate delivery from the other two in a couple of days.

Hey Sean.

I can guess your answer, but do you think there will be something interesting for Vinz in either in Magical Styles and Pyramid 3/4?

[identity profile] dr-kromm.livejournal.com 2009-02-14 05:09 pm (UTC)(link)
In Magical Styles for sure! Let's just say that if you liked Style Perks for fighting, you'll like Magic Perks for casting. They'll require some rethinking for my custom magic system, of course.

I'm not sure about Pyramid #3/4 . . . it goes heavily into Mass Combat support. There are a couple of articles that I could see Martin and Mike finding interesting, though.

Good. Then you have at least a week to think about it. :)

I guess in the case of Mass Combat, it would mostly apply to legions of spell casters, and not to one individual? Although I'm curious to find out why Mike, of all people, would be interested.

But I have the impression a lot of this stuff would also apply to my other fantasy campaing, so I'll probably get both anyway.

Kinda-sorta. There are options in there for navies, for instance, but also for small companies of mages and even individual warrior-wizards. It's primarily stuff that's most useful at war, though, and much of it demands multiple wizards capable of exploiting ceremonial magic and enchantment.

Although I'm curious to find out why Mike, of all people, would be interested.

Rufus possesses the Imbue advantage and there will be support for that. Thus, I could easily see a few of the new options being to Mike's liking.

Rufus has... Imbue? Since when?!?? Wouldn't it had been useful last week when he was busy getting killed? I mean, I actually know how useful Imbue is since one of my players' character actually has it in my own campaign. And his IQ is nowhere near 16.

I swear, I'll never understand the way Mike plays his character.

For some months, now. It has both the ESP power modifier and Limited Skill Access, tying it to Imbuement Skills that could be explained as either "find weaknesses" or "predict target location" – so mainly Penetrating Strike and Homing Weapon. As last week's battle was in close quarters, Homing Weapon was worthless. He tried Penetrating Strike, but it failed.

Go, associates!

[identity profile] dr-kromm.livejournal.com 2009-02-14 05:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, yeah . . . you ham! For those not in the know, the associates are, in alphabetical order by last name:

I'm doing what?

I better get started!

When's it due?

:O

[identity profile] wombattery.livejournal.com 2009-02-16 02:13 am (UTC)(link)
20,000 words on Mesopotamian headgear. You should have that done Monday, right?

Mesopotamia Mesopotamia Mesopotamia Mesopotamia Mesopotamia Mesopotamia Mesopotamia Mesopotamia Mesopotamia Mesopotamia Mesopotamia Mesopotamia Mesopotamia Mesopotamia Mesopotamia Mesopotamia Mesopotamia Mesopotamia Mesopotamia Mesopotamia Mesopotamia

That's a good start...How many words is that?

It's just as well roleplaying books are good to read.

I mean, I have well over one hundred GURPS books.

I think I've used a quarter of them in actual play.

And you people keep bringing out more!

As an update, I just finished writing up Cornelius Drebbel's diving boat, with the benefit of lots and lots of Web searches, some guesses based on rule-of-thumb knowledge of boats, and some basic physics. Now I'm going to take a break and have my monthly ice cream cone. After that, it's back to writing up boats. . . .

Unless I'm very much mistaken, the new GURPS Infinite Worlds support to which you allude is not a freebie.

Oh, no mistake...

As part of the recently-passed economic stimulus package, all of your work will now be freebies.

Happily, this simplifies your future contracts and royalty statements. Unhappily, it simplifies your bank statements, too. ;)

[identity profile] dr-kromm.livejournal.com 2009-02-16 01:05 am (UTC)(link)
I think we're thinking about different items. I'll e-mail you to remove the ambiguity.

[identity profile] princeofcairo.livejournal.com 2009-02-18 05:36 am (UTC)(link)
It turns out, and not for the first time, that I am very much mistaken. Though even the mistakes of someone so awesome that he apparently publishes books without knowing it should be counted more precious than carbuncles.
