Mulled zombie fights

I played in the first session of a new Unhallowed Metropolis campaign this afternoon. This is a good thing. It involves me being a player instead of a GM for the first time since [livejournal.com profile] ferrovipathes ran his AFMBE campaign back in May 2004. The common thread here is, of course, zombies. The jury is still out on the system – at this time, I'd call it "functional but uninspired" – but the setting is freakin' cool, and the GM is hell-bent on making the campaign a fun one, which matters way more than rules anyway. More on this as it develops.

Then tonight, I did another thing that I haven't done in years: I made mulled wine. It was cold here, and Bonnie and I felt like something warm, so the idea sort of ambushed us. I sliced up a lemon, a lime, and a blood orange for the pot. Over that, I tossed a generous shot of triple sec, 1/2 cup of sugar, and 1 cup of water. Next, I poured in a bottle of Offley 2004 LBV (Porto makes the best mulled wine – try it!). Finally, I dropped in an oversized tea infuser loaded with 4 green cardamom pods, 2 cinnamon sticks (snapped), 12 cloves, a chunk of ginger (sugar cube-sized), 6 juniper berries*, and 1/3 of a nutmeg (cracked). After a little heat, we had some awesome mulled wine.

And the third thing I did for the first time since about 1999 was re-watch Fight Club. This is an incredible film, so I'm dedicating this post to it, hence the song. If you haven't seen it for some odd reason . . . geez, watch it!

* Be careful with these. They can make your beverage taste like Pine-Sol if you use too many!
