Another week in the life of GURPS

Sorry I've been silent all week . . . I've been fighting some kind of skin allergy or related reaction, which has left me in a less-than-verbose mood. However, GURPS work did get done:

• We reviewed the PDF of Pyramid #3/6: Space Colony Alpha. I especially liked the monsters alien life forms!

• GURPS Hot Spots: Renaissance Florence, the latest by Matt Riggsby ([info]wombattery), is now out of editing and in the form of a rough PDF for the Medicis to review.

• I continue to work with Messrs. Fisher and Vortisch to get GURPS Gun Fu ready for playtesting. It's kind of neat to have an editor instead of be the editor – especially when the editor's top request is "Add Ozymandias' bullet-catching trick, you fools!"

• I am now reviewing the first draft of GURPS Horror, by Ken Hite ([info]princeofcairo). This one is crunchy – like bones and babies' skulls – so the review will take a while, a bit like the GURPS Low-Tech one.

• Speaking of which . . . GURPS Low-Tech is close to being ready for playtesting. That'll probably possibly happen before the end of April.

At this point I've scanned through all the other authors' chapters; I need to go back over mine and fill in any missing bits. But I'm amazed that you anticipate getting it into playtest that fast! I had figured the middle of May if everything went perfectly. . . .

Realistically, it might be May. It'll depend on how we divvy up the playtesting and editing workloads. But a playtest should at least be possible in April, even if it actually takes place in May.

I put some sort of rules for catching bullets into GURPS Supers. But I'm not sure if any of them would have worked for Adrian. It's probably some sort of chi-based skill that he learned after being Trained by a Master.

Add Ozymandias' bullet-catching trick

I want to point out that this may not have been catching so much as interposing his hand, since the bullet struck deeply enough to draw blood and had to be removed wiht the other hand.

I'm not sure where I got the idea that it was a baseline rule from

I believe some years ago our host gave me a ruling that an unarmed parry succeeding by 5 would allow the defender to catch/grapple the attacker's fist and apply crushing damage on the next turn, and it seems to have become commonly generalized since then into Parries succeeding by 5 get to do flashy things.

See also the footnote to Hand Catch on p. 84 of GURPS Martial Arts. Buy that for Parry Missile Weapons, add ETS, and you're set. There are ifs, buts, and maybes, of course. That's why we'll still need to add notes.

We reviewed the PDF of Pyramid #3/6: Space Colony Alpha.

I'm kinda curious - is there a date that you guys are shooting Pyramid to be out by each month, or is it a more nebulous "sometime in the last third"? So far, the first five issues seem to have all been out right around the third Friday of each month, but issue 3/6 isn't out yet, obviously, and it's now post-Friday, so I'm wondering if it's just a day later than normal, or if its going to be another week or so.

Actually, it's a bit more nebulous than that. The "usual" goal is "Third Thursday of the month," but in months with five Thursdays we like tend to push it back a week. Both times it's happened so far have coincided with a desire to push it back regardless. (January it was pushed back because the office was closed for two weeks, and April it was pushed back because I was sick for a week and also because of GTS.)

So, perhaps the best way to explain its release schedule is "second-to-last Thursday of the month." :)

Ah, cool. Thanks for the info, Steven! :-)
