Another week in the life of GURPS

Woah, that week flew! The latest and greatest on GURPS:

• Writers and wannabe writers take note: I finally got the new GURPS formatting guide online.

• I reviewed Matt Riggsby's GURPS Backdrops: The Tower of Octavius . . . and it's uploaded already. We're getting good at this. This PDF describes a generic wizard's tower, complete with inhabitants. Except that it doesn't feel generic -- which is a neat trick. The beautiful maps help a lot. You could pretty much drop this into any fantasy campaign.

• I reviewed Phil Masters' GURPS Thaumatology: Age of Gold. Do you like 1930s pulp? Like sorcery? Like where they meet, with mysterious dragon ladies and creepy mummy's curses? Then you'll love this PDF. It's a bit further out, but only a bit. Expect it soon.

• The GURPS Mass Combat playtest is almost done. We'll be wrapping up on September 15, and then David Pulver will be working on his final draft. I'm very happy with how this has gone.

Lows:

• Nothing, really, other than this being one of those weeks where everything needed little nudges and tweaks. But such is the way of things when you're a line developer. Despite it all, and despite it being Friday, I'm not feeling tired at all. I feel . . . like a debaser.

GURPS Thaumatology: Age of Gold sounds very cool to me.
I really like those "Retrotech" settings, like Solar Patrol ...
But I guess in this case it should be "Retromagic" ... but I'm not sure it actually means anything ... it's like saying Post-Retro ....
Sounds cool, but what does it mean?

It should be right up your alley! It's a TL(6+1)^ weird-science setting, where the "weird" comes from magic. So it is "retro," in the sense that TL6 comes before TL8 (today), and there is tech, in the sense of weird science . . . Retro-magic-tech? (And who cares what it means? I'm a debaser today, remember. I'm slicing up language, ha ha ha ho!)

There's nothing like being tugged at all week long to make for a good time.

I expect Mass Combat will do very well once we release it.

Regarding submissions

Is they GURPS line (particularly e23) still looking for star systems compatible w/ GURPS Space 4e?

Re: Regarding submissions

That's for e23 to say! I do review GURPS proposals and manuscripts, and advise e23 on what sorts of publications I believe would help GURPS, but I don't have the big picture when it comes to what the folks at e23 know they need to fill holes in their catalog. The best thing to do is take a look at their wish list and follow the query process explained there.

PS: Officially, this is just my personal blog, and I shouldn't speak for SJ Games here.

Officially -- or so I've noticed -- it doesn't seem to matter where we say what we say. We're both so associated with the company that everything we say is taken as official, company word and not our own personal opinions.

In my opinion, that blows. Oh well.

Then my opinions here have to get crazier! That'll learn 'em. ('Don't say "learn 'em", Toad,' said the Rat, greatly shocked. 'It's not good English.')

"PS: Officially, this is just my personal blog, and I shouldn't speak for SJ Games here."

Then I humbly apologize.
The e23 wishlist does still have "Space Atlas" as one of its wished-for items. I'll submit my proposal there and stop pestering you on your personal LJ.
Once again, my apologies.

Hey, feel free to pester me! Just pester me about personal stuff. ;)

Sorry - Vehcule Design?

[identity profile] twocosmicfish.livejournal.com 2008-09-15 04:26 am (UTC)(link)
Sorry to ask, since it is apparently a hot point, but do you have any idea when Vehicle Design will be released? My personal interest is that I am interested in writing for SJG, heavily dependent on vehicle design. I am a systems architect for a major defense contractor, and between writing $100M proposals and designing real systems I think I can make a good go of it.

I have no idea at all. GURPS Vehicle Design is squarely in the "it'll be done when it's done" category. It's much too large and editorially convoluted to be pushed to the top of the e23 queue, though. Our choice is to throw everything we have behind it or behind 9-10 shorter, simpler David Pulver titles that we could publish in the same time. Since the latter would make more money for both David and SJ Games, and since we're ultimately doing this to earn a living, the choice is obvious.
