Another week in the life of GURPS

Another week, another peek. The GURPS-ish goods:

• We released GURPS Gun Fu, by S.A. Fisher, Hans-Christian Vortisch, and y.t. What, you're still here? I said, "We released GURPS Gun Fu," goshdarnit! That's a hint. Okay, a bit more: This is the equivalent of GURPS Martial Arts for guns, focusing on the cinematic bits.

GURPS Urban Magics, by Bill Stoddard ([info]whswhs), moved closer to its release. We're just messing with the art at this stage. I've heard that we're thinking of calling it GURPS Thaumatology: Urban Magics, so be on the lookout for that title, too.

• By page count, I'm 20% of the way through my edit of GURPS Low-Tech, by Peter Dell'Orto ([info]peterdellorto), Dan Howard, Matt Riggsby ([info]wombattery), and Bill Stoddard ([info]whswhs). Pages aren't the most reliable measurement – doubtless, I'll slow right down once I hit weapons tables – but it's definite progress.

There was much incremental progress on other work, but part of the fun of having an assistant ([info]peekitty) is that I don't have to mess with every last thing . . . which is good, given that I have GURPS Low-Tech to edit. However, I can confirm movement on GURPS Thaumatology: Alchemical Baroque and GURPS Dungeon Fantasy: Summoners, both by Phil Masters, and on GURPS Spaceships 7: Strange and Alien Spacecraft, by David Pulver.

Yeah, I'm afraid at 20% you're still in the easy part of the book. The weapons and defenses chapters will probably cause you the most agony, and they're right in the middle and just after. On the other hand, the information technologies chapter probably has more new mechanics than any other. . . .

No comments here on Gurps Horror since July 24. Is something wrong?

Not at all. Print books are huge time sinks next to PDFs. In the one to two years it takes to write, playtest, revise, edit, lay out, etc. one large book of even 144 pages, we can shepherd a couple of dozen new 16- to 32-page PDFs to print per year. Needless to say, the process is in no way linear in page count! So you'll see reports on print books here only a few percent of the time.

Basically, [profile] princeofcairo is revising his first draft. This will take months. Final-draft revisions also constitute one of the more "hands off" parts of the process for SJ Games. Our only involvement is to prod to author, and that's not the sort of thing I report.

Well, in my case, you've often been involved in my final drafts by getting asked fussy questions about game mechanical issues. But that's a supportive role rather than a decision-making one.
