Everybody else is doing it . . .

Take a picture of yourself right now.
Don't change your clothes, don't fix your hair...just take a picture.
Post that picture with NO editing.
Post these instructions with your picture.

How could I turn that down? I believe that seeing more faces on the Internet would go a long way toward defusing all the rudeness caused by people forgetting that they're dealing with other people, not with machines. And I'm not really big on visual anonymity, either. So here goes:

This mostly tells me that I need to shave more, to avoid that Hugh Laurie look, and that taking pictures with a camera at arm's reach means your head will look really big. Cool.

As looks go, a Hugh Laurie one is not a bad one to aim for. But I'm mostly impressed by how very, very spiky your hair is in that shot.

Ah, that's right . . . you've never hung out with me in person! My hair is usually like that. I'm compulsive about showering when I get up in the morning, and the first thing I do after that is wrap a towel around myself and smuck gel into my hair. I've done this for at least 23 years; it's a bad '80s habit. And since I tell my hairdresser to keep my hair short -- I consider it terribly long and in need of a cut in that photo -- the result is spiky.

Whereas the not-being-shaved part is atypical. I usually bother to shave. So the facial hair is what I see in the photo. The hair on top of my head might as well be invisible!

Hee!

I'm very fond of wearing my hair spiky, but it doesn't do it well at all; even with the Uber-Hold Gel, my hair wants to gently fall over three minutes after application. So I go for the "This haircut cost $10 and I never brush my hair" look instead, as seen in my post.

Yeah, I've gone through a lot of brands finding the one that stays spiky all day. Only the really hard-core KMS-brand gel works for me.

And FWIW, in your photo, the first thing I noticed was the nifty glasses. This is likely a product of having worn glasses -- most of them ugly -- for 29 years. My prescription is mostly beyond contacts and lasers.

I love these glasses so much. They were an unexpected find in a discount frames shop, and I treasure them. If I ever get laser eye surgery, like I've been considering, I might actually look into how hard it would be to get the lenses replaced with non-prescription tinted glass to use when driving.
