Another week in the life of GURPS

My computer . . . it lives! There were casualties, but at least I'm back. Of course, the hard-drive failure kept me from getting very much done. About all I have to report is this: I started my review of Hans-Christian Vortisch's GURPS Tactical Shooting. This is the sort of crunchy, gun-shootin' goodness you've come to expect from Hans. It's definitely going to be a worthy complement to GURPS Gun Fu, the two collectively giving you "GURPS Martial Arts for guns."

Oh, and this week is named "Joel," after the guy who fixed my busted PC.

Let's hope that I have a real update for you next week!

Glad to have you back!

And the disc drive cometh...

Funny story.

I'm in FedEx, trying to ship you The Package.

International Shipping is a Byzantine thing...but I go up and the guy at the desk agrees to help me out. Apparently, the best thing to do is fill out all the paperwork REMOTELY, and bring the final page to the store. Whatever.

He sets me up at a local terminal on site, and he asks what I'm doing. Shipping a disc drive to a friend who's computer blew up.

Oh, says he.

Yeah, he's the line editor for a RPG, so he kinds wants a superior backup solution; since my company makes one, it's full of win.

Oh, REALLY! (he has a clear glimmer of recognition in his eye over RPG).

We chat for a moment...turns out he's a gamer (who knew?) and when I said "This address? This is KROMM." he turned into a bowl full of solid help.

So, net/net, Kromm's a Real Honest Celebrity, and namedropping from hundreds of miles away hath greased skids and shipped a small package Northward. You should have it this week.

That is amusing! I think it represents the first time my name and job have helped my cause instead of getting me dogpiled by GURPS Third Edition fans, people who hate PDFs, or people who think that old-school games with big skill lists, Rule Zero, and some call for basic math skills are evil. :D

Actually, it's the second time. The first time was years ago, on my way to GenCon. The American customs and immigration guy I got at the airport was a fan, and I just walked through when they were spot-checking every other person over some security alert. He actually said I was an "honorary Texan." I did have to autograph something for him, though. :)
