Another week in the life of GURPS

This week is named "Ullr" because I blame Iceland for the snow we had at the start of it. The GURPS news:

• A rough PDF of GURPS City Stats, by Bill Stoddard ([livejournal.com profile] whswhs), is now making the review rounds. This item should be out sometime in the next month, giving us all a canonical stats system for quickly describing cities.

• I reviewed the rough PDF of GURPS Low-Tech, by Peter Dell'Orto ([livejournal.com profile] peterdellorto), Dan Howard, Matt Riggsby ([livejournal.com profile] wombattery), and Bill Stoddard ([livejournal.com profile] whswhs). Looking good! It'll be art-light and text-heavy, but the layout is pleasing and the tables are first-class – take a bow, Nikki!

• I reviewed an intermediate draft of GURPS Horror, by Ken Hite ([livejournal.com profile] princeofcairo). Yes, we're all aware that it's running late – I reviewed the thing to see what we could do about that. Ken and I arrived at a plan of action to ensure that we'll have a book in 2011.

• The playtest of GURPS Tactical Shooting, by Hans-Christian Vortisch, ends this weekend. If you're one of the lucky playtesters, be sure to get your last few licks in!

• Projects I cannot name by Roger Burton West, Matt Riggsby ([livejournal.com profile] wombattery), Bill Stoddard ([livejournal.com profile] whswhs), and our own Jason "PK" Levine ([livejournal.com profile] peekitty) all saw forward movement this week. My writing project was on hold while I reviewed GURPS Horror and GURPS Low-Tech.

I reviewed the rough PDF of GURPS Low-Tech, ... – take a bow, Nikki!

I see what you did there. ;)

Yay, Nikki! I'm not surprised Low Tech is going to be text-heavy and art-light. We stuffed a lot of words into that thing.

I'd like to mention RPK's part in recent progress on my project. I sent in my first draft and got comments back in a matter of hours. This is unheard of in editorial world, people! They're working hard to bring you better games.

And since you can't name projects, I will. One of mine is "Linda" and the other is "Gustavus."

Tactical Shooting...

I've been quite pleased, actually, damn thrilled, with the quality of the playtest for Tactical Shooting. This manuscript got a LOT of ACTUAL PLAY, with people using the rules in real scenarios, reporting on what worked and didn't.

We also had a tremendous amount of truly expert opinion; comments on sniping rules from a real sniper, lots of people with contrasting opinions on real soldiering, from a few who have deployed or trained those who have deployed.

And the hell of it is, there are comparatively FEW new rules; [fanboy] GURPS was sufficiently well laid out from the get-go that mostly, there are a few clarifications, a couple expansions, and a crap-ton of pointers to rules that already exist.[/fanboy]

Anyway...people are going to be very pleased with it, I think. I would be...if I only had a gaming group anymore. Pout.
