Busy weekend for a holiday!

This past weekend was Thanksgiving weekend here in Canada. It was a good one, if busy. I spent much of it editing a non-gaming, non-SJ Games project (yes, I have those!); specifically, a 30-page employment application for a scientist friend of mine. International organizations (in this case, NATO) are so formal!

However, I found time for a good Thanksgiving meal with friends. Bonnie made a great vegetarian dinner with harvest vegetables. We started with tomato soup, moved on to baked delicata squash, leek-and-mushroom risotto, butternut squash ravioli, and caramelized fennel and onions, and had pumpkin pie (made from scratch, not from tinned goo) for dessert. We enjoyed a Brunello di Montalcino (Angelini, Val di Suga, 1998) with the meal and had maple wine, of all things, with dessert. We also had cocktails before, a nice 2004 Alsace Gewürz during (for those who couldn't stomach red), and coffee after. All in all, a great meal.

Originally, I was going to work on Monday, but I haven't actually taken a Thanksgiving holiday since 1994, and I spent much of the weekend working -- so, bam, a day off. It was totally worth it! And there was leftover pie, too . . .

I'm going to hit the sack, but tomorrow (well, later today) is election day here in Canada. I'll ask all my Canadian friends to get up, get out, and vote! If you don't vote, I won't be listening when you're bitching about the government next time! More seriously, just remember all the places where people don't get to vote in a fair election. You want something to give thanks for? Try a ballot that'll actually be counted.

No Diebold machines here, just old ladies who can barely keep your name in mind long enough to cross it off a list! And a paper ballot with a low-tech pencilled X. My duty's done.

Leftover pie? I thought I ate it all! It sure felt that way yesterday... ;-)

Yeah, we're headed out to vote in just a few minutes. I'm just digging out ID. Mostly for Bonnie, who once again will have to prove she lives here despite the gov't not putting an address on the RAMQ card.

As for the pie . . . We did eat it all, but there was backup pie!

And I've voted! And had more pie!

(See, Canadians aren't that different from Americans: We have Thanksgiving, we vote, and we eat pie. We just do it all before the U.S.A. does; so either we're innovative or we're part of a beta test during which TPTB work out all the glitches. One of those. But since the pie was good, I think we're simply innovative. Never doubt the Pie Test!)
