NvP Podcast

The good folks at Ninja vs Pirates interviewed me about GURPS (with a focus on GURPS Action) some time back. The first of two parts of the podcast is now up here. If you can get past my silly jokes and "Um, err, you know . . .", and have an interest in GURPS, then why not check it out? If nothing else, you can learn how Canadians speak!

How Canadians speak

I'm from Michigan. I don't hear a big difference. Although when I go to Toronto, I'm told my American accent is very pronounced.

I gather that accents are 50% in the hearing – subtle cues trigger associations, and the result is that the listener hears more what he expects to hear than the actual signal. I don't pretend to understand this! However, I've been taken for an American, an Aussie, and a Brit, despite being very Canadian . . . and I've also been told that I have German, French, and Spanish accents. Strangely, I've never had anyone mention the one distinctive accent I actually possess: that of a Maritimer, which is to say a person from New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, or Prince Edward Island.
