Rather than fill this week's update with minor clues about GURPS – we had meetings, I wrote, various projects moved a tick or two ahead – I'd like to say a few words about something far dearer to my heart.

After a recent hospitalization, Warren "Mook" Wilson died on Wednesday, January 26. If you're reading this LJ for GURPS crumbs, you know who Mook was. You also know that just as I go by "Dr. Kromm," he went by "Mook." That moniker isn't inappropriate, even at this sad time.

Mook wrote How to Be a GURPS GM. In the course of doing so, he quoted me extensively . . . which led to a 12-year correspondence. His work in turn sparked my creativity; I wrote two follow-ups to his book. I'm not linking to those here because this is about Mook and what he contributed, not my scratching and musing.

Mook also ran the Discord server for GURPS. There were and are others, but that's the only one I know of that attracts freelancers who actually contribute to the game. It's also the friendliest place for new GURPS players to ask questions the forums are too static to handle . . . though Mook was also super-active there (he pulled all my quotes from the forums!).

And Mook did other stuff, too. Like videos to support GURPS. Like working with the creators of character-creation software and VTTs that support GURPS. As I've said several times already this week: I might be the world's foremost expert on the creation of GURPS content, but Mook was the world's foremost expert on using GURPS to have fun.

All of which is to say, I liked Mook, got along with him, and owe him a professional debt. If you play GURPS, you very likely owe him a debt, too. You might not even know it.

Happy trails, my friend, and thanks for everything.
