If you're interested in living in my area of the Plateau: My landlord is putting the flat next to mine up for rent on September 21 or 22, 2009. It becomes available on November 1, but it will probably go long before that. The place is a ground-floor 4½ (really a 5½). My rent is fair for the Plateau, so while the rent next door might be a bit higher, it won't be killer thanks to city ordinances. Just PM if you want to know more. (For safety reasons, I'm only going to answer PMs from people I know, of course.)

. . . and mine is for zombies. But I'm also happy to see latex, leather, etc., if it's for a good cause. In this case, the cause was a Save the Main event. These guys are campaigning to keep Montréal's red light district from being turned into yet more office space (we already have more than we can lease!). Anyway, part of Bonnie's baladi troupe was dancing in the evening's cabaret element, although the feature event was a fetish film festival as part of the Montréal Fetish Weekend.

The dance connection wasn't the only reason I went. As it happens, I believe that cities need red light districts. Tonight, I heard that lots of cities are bulldozing red light districts to make room for more offices. Well, I've seen that happen, folks, and the reality is this: It disperses the district's people and activities all over the city. If you're into this stuff, it becomes harder to find. If you're opposed to it, guess what? It ends up in your back alley. Either way, nobody wins . . . least of all the people who work there.

And that's enough politics for one night.

Once again, the lanterns are out in the evening in the Chinese Garden au Jardin botanique de Montréal. It's a wonderful sight, worth a visit if you're in the area. (The Magic of Lanterns runs from September 5 to October 31.) Unfortunately, our digital SLR needs a new battery pack, so I was stuck wielding ye olde pocket digital and my iPhone, neither of which is ideal for snapping bright objects in the darkness. One photo came out looking somewhat recognizable as lanterns:

The lotuses were out, too . . . )
